A Historic Achievement in Hemophilia Care at Nagpur
For people living with hemophilia, repeated bleeding into the joints can lead to severe pain, stiffness, and permanent joint damage. Over time, even simple daily activities such as walking, climbing stairs, or standing for long periods become difficult. Advanced joint replacement surgery can restore mobility, but such procedures require careful planning because of the increased risk of bleeding.
The Hemophilia Society Nagpur Chapter is proud to share a historic achievement in hemophilia care. For the first time in Nagpur, a patient with hemophilia successfully underwent total knee replacement surgery on both knees.
The surgery was performed on 13 January 2025 at Shridha Hospital, Ajni, Nagpur by Dr. Amol Kadu, an experienced orthopedic surgeon. The complete hemophilia management, including factor replacement therapy and bleeding control before, during, and after surgery, was coordinated by Dr. Anju Kadu, ensuring the procedure was carried out safely.
This successful operation marks an important milestone not only for the patient but also for the entire hemophilia community in Central India. It demonstrates that advanced orthopedic procedures for people with bleeding disorders can now be performed successfully in Nagpur with proper planning, experienced specialists, and coordinated medical care.
Following the surgery, the patient has been recovering well with regular physiotherapy under the guidance of Dr. Abhinav Phadnis. The rehabilitation program is helping improve strength, flexibility, and confidence while supporting a safe return to daily activities.
